How we research, write, and cite
Our local guides are written to help Houston homeowners make good decisions — grounded in primary sources, not guesswork.
Who writes this content
Our area and service guides are produced by the HHSG Editorial Team, a group focused exclusively on Greater Houston home services. We are homeowners' advocates, not contractors — our job is to translate primary-source data (flood maps, Census housing data, city permit rules, equipment specs) into plain guidance you can act on. Where a claim is specific and factual, we cite where it comes from.
Over time, individual guides will carry a "Reviewed by a licensed Houston professional" line as we partner with verified local pros in each trade. Business owner names appear only on profiles those owners have claimed and verified themselves.
Sources we rely on
-
FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer
Flood-zone designations and flood-risk context for each area.
-
U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 5-Year)
Housing age, home values, ownership rates, and population figures.
-
City & county permit offices
Which jurisdiction issues permits and what local rules apply.
-
Manufacturer specifications
Equipment lifespans, code requirements, and maintenance guidance.
-
Google Business Profile data
Verified ratings, review counts, hours, and service areas.
Corrections & accuracy
Local rules and data change. We update guides as new verified data becomes available and date each page's last review. If you spot something out of date or incorrect, tell us and we'll fix it. We would rather be accurate than fast.
How rankings work
Our "best in {area}" lists are ordered by verified rating, review volume, verification tier, and local relevance — never by payment. See the full ranking methodology.
