Methodology
How we rank home-service pros
Every "Best {service} in {area}" list on this site is ordered the same, transparent way — by quality and reputation, never by who paid the most.
When we call a business one of the "best" in an area, that is a summary of public, verifiable signals — not an opinion we were paid to hold. Here is exactly what goes into the order you see:
- 1
Verified Google rating
We start from each business's real Google Business Profile star rating. We don't invent scores or accept payment to inflate them — the rating you see is the rating Google shows.
- 2
Review volume
A 5.0 from three customers isn't the same as a 4.7 from four hundred. We weight rating by the number of verified reviews so a long, consistent track record outranks a tiny sample.
- 3
Verification tier
Businesses that claim and verify their profile — confirming their service area, hours, and contact details — rank above unclaimed listings, because verified information is more useful and more trustworthy to you.
- 4
Local relevance
Pros physically based in the area you're viewing are shown first, followed by highly-rated pros who serve it from nearby — always labeled with their real city and distance, so you always know where a business is based.
No pay-to-play
A business cannot buy a higher position in our rankings. Verified businesses can add photos, service details, and respond to reviews — but placement is always earned through real ratings and reviews. If we ever show sponsored placement, it will be clearly labeled as such and kept separate from the ranked results.
Rankings are recomputed as new verified review data becomes available. Last reviewed 2026. Read our editorial standards.
